Initially, converts are from Germanic tribes who encounter Romans and other Christians and bring this religious influence home. Eventually, missionaries begin to spread, leading to an ongoing struggle between pagan and Christian tribes. As Christian missionaries move into largely Indigenous communities with belief systems focused on the sacred interdependence between people and the natural world, the missionaries bring with them wealth. Honoring the one God becomes seen as part of the path to building personal wealth beyond the subsistence lifestyle of a rooted, subsistence culture. Not all people are drawn to this prospect, but enough are that it begins to fracture communities.
