About 1,0000 enslaved people are forced from Africa to Portugal.
Date: 1448
Enslaved African people arrive at the Iberian Peninsula through the Trans-Saharan slave trade during Muslim occupation. This establishes an early root of the Atlantic Slave trade. By 1550, there will be 100,000 enslaved Africans in Lisbon and almost that many in Seville, Spain. The first enslaved Africans forced to the Americas will originate from Seville, where most of them have been born.
