According to a report by the Bureau of Health Profession Shortages, the majority of primary health care provider shortages are rural. While 19.2 percent of the U.S. population lives in rural America, only 11.4 percent of physicians practice in rural locations. At this point, rural physician shortages have been consistently documented for 85 years.
