Virginia legalizes the murder of enslaved Africans by slaveholders.

This Virginia law made it no longer criminal for a slaveholder to kill enslaved people for disobedience as: “the obstinacy of many [enslaved people] cannot be suppressed by other than violent means,” and the enslaved person was considered property.
