The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is passed.

Date: 2010

HPI
LLP
MED
PH

The act increases health insurance coverage for the uninsured and implements reforms to the health insurance market. It ends health insurance denial due to pre-existing conditions, and creates a system of open enrollment when people can go online and easily change their health insurance to meet their needs during certain periods. It stops notably short of establishing single-payer universal health care, but will nevertheless extend coverage to 35 million people in the U.S. by the end of 2021.
