The 195 countries who sign the Paris Climate Agreement commit to reducing carbon emissions and keeping global temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius. The agreement acknowledges the undue burden placed on countries in the Global South by the major emitter countries, and includes financial assistance to these countries for mitigation and response.

The United States will submit notice of its withdrawal under President Trump in 2017, and will be readmitted under President Biden in 2021.
