After Parabon NanoLabs' public release of information about a potential teen suspect in a cold case, public outcry leads to new policies for public genetic discovery sites like GEDMatch. Individuals whose genetic material is processed on these sites now must give consent for their genetic material to be used for forensic purposes. Parabon and other private forensic businesses lose a major source of their data when the majority of consumers do not provide consent.
