While the escalation of the slave trade is slowed by various wars in Europe, there are records of 13 enslaved African people sold within "New France" via private sales in 1689. King Louis XIV continues to decline to rule on the legality of enslaving Indigenous people in order to protect potential allyships, but it continues nonetheless.
