According to a study of police records released by the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University in 2021, there were 122 incidents of hate violence targeting Asian communities in 16 of the country’s most populous cities recorded in 2020.
This xenophobic violence has continued, and has also led to new Asian community-led organizations, including Stop Asian American Pacific Islander Hate (Stop AAPI Hate), to bring awareness to the rise of xenophobic violence since the COVID-19 pandemic, and to build strategies for collective care, safety, and survival.
