The New York Times reveals that Providence, one of the largest "non-profit" hospital chains in the U.S., has been instructing staff to pressure patients to pay, including those who are eligible for free care based on their income.

Despite receiving over 1 billion dollars a year in tax benefits through their non-profit status, only 1% of Providence's budget goes to providing free care.
