Hannaford Brothers, a grocery chain in Maine, begins paying the entire medical bill for staff to travel to Singapore for hip and knee replacements, including travel for the patient and a companion.

The cost of sending their staff out of the United States for a range of surgeries means that they can offer lower-cost health plans to their staff. The two strategies combined mean lower healthcare costs for the company.
