In a case brought by Evelyn Coke, the U.S. Supreme Court rules that the Labor Department has chosen to exclude home care workers from minimum wage and overtime protection. New York City submits a brief in this case, estimating that overtime payments to home aides would increase Medicaid costs by $250 million a year.

In this case, the U.S. Supreme Court chooses to protect the right of the employer to determine compensation over the rights of the worker.
