British physicians begin to connect the color of the skin to a medical understanding of the humors.
Date: 1615
According to Poitevin (2011): "English physician Helkiah Crooke described the skin as 'naturally white' but varying in color according to the humoral state of the body." This leads to the further development of the "mythology of white naturalness, constructing whiteness as an unmarked or 'default' position for race."
