POV

A report by the American Association of Medical Colleges predicts a severe physician shortage in 2033 of between 54,000 and 139,000 fewer physicians than required to cover the country's medical needs. Reasons for this predicted shortage include increasing national care needs as the baby boomer generation ages, as well as a large number of physicians due to retire. Shortages like this will, as always, have a greater impact on communities living in poverty and in rural areas where healthcare provision is already more sparse.
