The Department of Commerce submits a patent claim to a "cell line" from a 26-year-old member of the Guaymi people of Western Panama, in order to secure the: "exclusive right to decide who could use the cell line, and at what cost" (Jean, 2010).

The claim will be dropped in response to pushback from the Guaymi General Congress and others.
