As part of a medical experiment, Henry Heiman, a New York City pediatrician, infects two boys–four and sixteen years old–with gonorrhea.

A review of the medical literature of the late-19th and early-20th centuries will find more than 40 reports of experimental infections with gonorrheal culture, including some where gonorrheal organisms are applied to the eyes of sick children.
