The New York Times reports that 20 large hospital chains received more than $5 billion in federal aid slated for struggling health providers. The majority of the economic bailout money distributed through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act goes to large institutions with significant savings already in place. Particularly absent from those receiving funds are health providers in low-income communities.
