The protests call for canceling rent for those without income during the COVID-19 quarantine. The unemployment rate is projected to be at 10% by the end of 2021, which is higher than it ever was during the Great Recession following the crash in 2008. It is expected to be between 14% and 16% through the fall of 2020.
